The British School in Rome

The BSR is a centre of interdisciplinary research excellence in the Mediterranean supporting the full range of arts, humanities and social sciences. We create an environment for work of international standing and impact from Britain and the Commonwealth, and a bridge into the intellectual and cultural heart of Rome and Italy.

The BSR recently celebrated the centenary of its Royal Charter in June 2012, and we are proud of our longstanding association with the monarchy under the patronage of HM The Queen and our President HRH Princess Alexandra.

In 2000 we were honoured to host HM The Queen as part of the celebrations for the development of the new Sainsbury Wing – comprising a gallery and lecture theatre – which was officially inaugurated by HRH Princess Alexandra on 7 October 2002.
